White's Three Free Throws with 1.4 Seconds Left Gives Men's Basketball 77-76 Win at Wilmington

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – Jordan White's three free throws with 1.4 seconds remaining capped a five-point comeback over the final 33 seconds to give the University of the Sciences men's basketball team a 77-76 triumph at Wilmington on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats' five-point advantage, which matched their largest since the 10:10 mark of the second half, came after a driving layup to beat the shot clock with just 40 seconds remaining.

Sean Simon immediately came down the court and hit a deep 3-pointer and after Wilmington missed the front-end of a one-and-one, USciences had a chance to tie the game or take the lead.

The Devils would miss though, giving the Wildcats another opportunity to make it a two-possession game with a one-and-one, which they missed yet again.

After advancing the ball up court University of the Sciences called a timeout with three seconds left, which would lead to White receiving the ball in the corner.

He was fouled attempting a 3-pointer and after making the first two free throws, a Wilmington timeout could not halt him from draining the third.

That capped a team-high 22-point performance for the redshirt-sophomore, who made 7-of-12 from the field, 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and all five of his foul shots.

University of the Sciences made all 17 of its free throw attempts, just two shy of the team's most makes without a miss in recorded program history (since 2004-05).

Simon was the only other Devil in double-figures with 17 points off the bench.

Javon Gordon and Jordan Davidson (season-high) also came off the bench to score eight points each, as USciences' reserves outscored Wilmington's 37-8.

Connor Murphy added eight points and team-highs of six rebounds and four assists.

University of the Sciences erased its largest first half deficit, 23-16, with eight straight points, but Wilmington would score the final eight points of period and the first three of second to take the game's largest lead, 42-34, 14 seconds out of the locker room.

Although USciences got as close as one, the Wildcats regained a three-possession advantage, 59-52, with 10:31 to play, before the Devils took their firt second half lead, 64-63, on Franklin Okpala's layup 3:30 later.

After the two teams traded baskets, six straight Wilmington points made the score 71-67 with 3:29 to go, before four Simon free throws sandwiched a Wildcat 3-pointer to make it a three-point game entering the final minute.

University of the Sciences takes over a week off before traveling to cross-city rival No. 17 Jefferson next Wednesday for an 8 p.m. tip.
