PHILADELPHIA – Charlotte Kordonowy won her second straight match, but a couple of three-setters did not go the USciences women's tennis team's way in the Devils' home-opener against Wilmington on Wednesday night at the Hamlin Center.
Kordonowy improved to 2-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play with a straight set win, 6-2, 7-6 (4), at No. 2 singles.
She and partner Rosemary Esquivel also came closest to a victory in doubles play, falling 5-7 at the first flight.
Esquivel was one of two Devils to fall in three sets in singles play, erasing a first set loss to take the second in a tiebreaker (7-4), only to be clipped by the narrowest of margins, 11-13, in a third set super-tiebreaker at the third flight.
Stephanie Mazurek also came back to force a third set super-tiebreaker via a tiebreak triumph in the second (7-5) at No. 6 singles.
University of the Sciences takes a week of before returning to the Hamlin Center next Wednesday to host Post at 6 p.m.
