COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Saint Joseph's field hockey team moved up one spot to 12th in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The Hawks were ranked 13th a week ago but moved up after splitting a pair of games against VCU and then-#9 Virginia over the weekend.
On Friday,
Manu Ghigliotti tallied a goal and an assist as Saint Joseph's opened Atlantic 10 play with a comprehensive 2-0 victory over VCU. The Hawks then fell at Virginia, 3-2, in a tight contest on Sunday afternoon.
Virginia fell to 10th in this week's poll and is one of eight Hawk opponents currently ranked in the top 25. North Carolina and Penn State held steady at second and sixth, respectively, while Harvard moved up a spot to 14th and Boston College jumped three places to 18th. Rutgers remained 19th, Duke slipped two slots to 20th, and UMass dropped two spots to 22nd.
The Hawks will play their first home conference game of the season on Friday against Lock Haven before traveling to Delaware on Sunday.
