Men's Basketball Holds on Against Revolutionaries

Box Score PHILADELPHIAJaiden Glover-Toscano led three Hawks in double figures as the Saint Joseph's men's basketball team held on to beat George Washington, 76-73, on Wednesday night.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Glover-Toscano scored 23 on 8-for-9 shooting overall and went 5-for-6 from beyond the arc.
  • Derek Simpson netted 17 points with five assists and five rebounds. He made all seven of his shots at the free throw line.
  • Dasear Haskins tallied 14 with six boards.
  • Austin Williford had a solid overall game with eight points, a team-leading seven rebounds and three steals. It is the fourth time this season he has taken the ball off an opponent three or more times.
  • Justice Ajogbor blocked three shots, his fifth consecutive game with three or more swats.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams got off to a slow start from the floor before Glover-Toscano caught fire from beyond the arc, connecting on three consecutive three-pointers as the Hawks used a 13-5 run, capped by an off-balance leaner by Haskins to open a 19-10 lead with 12:30 left in the half.
  • The Revolutionaries worked their way closer at the line, pulling to within four points, but SJU scored 14 of the next 18 points to push the advantage to 33-19 at the 3:03 mark. The defense shone during the span, holding GW to just one field goal over a 10-minute stretch.
  • George Washington found its stroke in the final few minutes of the frame, hitting 4-of-5 from the floor, including a trio of treys, but the Hawks still held a 35-30 lead at the break.
  • Beginning the second half, the Revolutionaries kept the momentum on their side, outscoring the Hawks 12-4 in the first four minutes, taking a 42-39 lead. A few moments later, GW extended the lead to 48-43.
  • Saint Joseph's began its comeback with a three-pointer from Anthony Finkley that ignited a 21-7 spurt, during which St. Joe's hit 9-of-16 from the floor overall and dropped three triples.
  • SJU never trailed again, but George Washington made it interesting with some timely shooting from distance, connecting on all five of its three-pointers in a three-minute span, slicing the Hawks' lead to 71-70 with 1:19 to play. With the shot clock winding down on offense for Saint Joseph's, Simpson was fouled on a trey and made all three of his shots at the stripe.
