PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Dwayne Jones recorded the first triple-double for Saint
Joseph's in almost two decades to help the Hawks to a 65-47 victory over St.
Bonaventure on Saturday.
Jones, a junior center, finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds and a
career-high 10 blocks for St. Joseph's (14-9, 11-1 Atlantic 10), which last saw
a triple-double when Rodney Blake had 14 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks for
the Hawks against Penn State on Feb. 27, 1986.
Pat Carroll led the Hawks, who have won six of their last seven, with 18
points, including 4-for-7 from 3-point range.
Wade Dunston led St. Bonaventure (2-22, 1-12) with 19 points and Ahmad Smith
had 15 points and 15 rebounds.
The Hawks never trailed and led by a dozen at intermission, 34-22, and
dominated the second half, holding a 65-45 lead with a minute remaining in the
game.
Jones had nine points and eight rebounds in the first half. Carroll hit only
one of his first seven shots before drilling consecutive 3-pointers to give the
Hawks a 32-20 lead. Carroll opened the second half by hitting two straight
3-pointers, and the Bonnies never got within single digits in the second half.
It was the sixth straight conference victory for the Hawks, who remain in first place in the Atlantic 10 East with an 11-1 record.
