PHILADELPHIA, PA -
Saint Joseph's sophomore pitcher Lauren Hughes was named Atlantic 10 Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 18-24.
In her lone appearance of the week, Hughes was stellar on the mound for the Hawks, leading SJU to a 2-1 win over city-rival Temple.
The second-year hurler was stellar over the opening four innings, keeping the reigning A-10 champs Temple hitless, while striking out five.
Hughes allowed one run on three hits over the final three innings, striking out Temple's final batter to earn the complete-game victory. The Holland, Pennsylvania native improved to 5-10 on the season as she finished with eight strikeouts, while walking none.
Hughes is the second Hawk to earn A-10 weekly honors as senior Megan Richardson earned Player of the Week accolades on April 5.
Hughes and the Hawks (13-25) return to action Tuesday, April 26, at Princeton. The opening game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m.
