Hawks' Cunic Named Atlantic 10 Softball Player Of The Week

May. 2, 2005

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Saint Joseph's senior catcher Alicia Cunic was named Atlantic 10 Softball Player of the Week for the week of April 25-May 1.

Cunic went 12-for-27 on the week as she helped the Hawks earn a berth in the Atlantic 10 Championship with series sweeps of George Washington and St. Bonaventure this past weekend.

Over the final A-10 series, Cunic went nine-for-14 with 11 RBIs and two home runs. Versus the Colonials, she collected RBI including the game-winning RBI in the nightcap as she helped the Hawks to 10-2 and 12-11 victories.

Versus St. Bonaventure on Sunday, Cunic went three-for-six in must-win games to secure a postseason berth. She added three RBI, including a homerun in the nightcap as the Hawks won 2-1 and 7-1.

Cunic is the third Hawk to earn A-10 weekly honors as senior Megan Richardson earned Player of the Week accolades on April 5 and sophomore Lauren Hughes was named Pitcher of the Week on April 25.

Cunic and Saint Joseph's will return to action next Monday, May 9, versus Lehigh as the Hawks prepare for the A-10 Championship. Game one is scheduled for 3 p.m.
