Saint Joseph's Softball Splits Doubleheader at Manhattan

NEWARK, NJ - Playing for the first time since March 11 due to poor weather in the Northeast, the Saint Joseph's softball team split its doubleheader at Manhattan Sunday afternoon. The Hawks dropped the opener 2-0, but rallied to win the nightcap, 3-2.

In game two, the Jaspers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a RBI double by Amanda Genovese.

Saint Joseph's rallied to tie the game in the top the fourth on a RBI by junior outfielder Kate Falasca, before taking a 2-1 advantage in the top of the fifth on a RBI single by sophomore catcher Erika Rosenwinkel.

The Jaspers rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI double by Michelle Gutierrez.

With the game tied at two, Rosenwinkel collected her second RBI of the game, connecting on a two-out double, scoring sophomore Kelsey Moir for the go-ahead run.

Despite giving up back-to-back hits with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, junior pitcher Lauren Cognigni got Kerry Cook to pop out to finish the game.

In the opener, Manhattan pitcher Liz Pennino was dominant, allowing only four Hawk hits, while the Jasper bats collected a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to earn a 2-0 win.

With the split, the Hawks move to 3-11 on the year, while Manhattan moved to 1-17.

Saint Joseph's returns to action Thursday, March 29, when the Hawks host Saint Peter's. The doubleheader begins at 2:30 p.m.
