The Saint Joseph's softball team dropped a doubleheader to Atlantic 10 rival Temple Wednesday afternoon at Ambler Softball Field. The Hawks dropped the opener 6-0 to the Owls and fell 8-0 in the nightcap.
In game one, Temple jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Adrienne Repsher got the Owls on the board with a two-run home run to left field off Saint Joseph's junior pitcher Lauren Cognigni. Temple's Courtney Norene added the second homer of the inning with a two-run shot to left field to put the Owls up 4-0.
Up by four, Temple pitcher Ashley Smuda kept the Hawks' bats at bay in the opener, allowing only three hits, while her team added insurance runs in the fourth and fifth for the 6-0 win.
In game two, the Owls again jumped out to an erly lead, scoring a run in the second and two in the third to go up 3-0.
Saint Joseph's offense again struggled, collecting just three hits against Temple pitcher Brianna Dairy.
The Owls added a run in the fourth and four in the fifth to earn th 8-0 victory.
The Hawks (11-19; 4-6 A-10) host Rhode Island this Friday.
