The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team got a game-high seven saves from junior Christine Neal, but it wasn't enough as the Hawks fell to host Binghamton, 2-0, Friday evening.
The game swayed back and forth over the opening 45 minutes, with the Hawks being the aggressors, holding a 5-3 edge in shots. However, the game remained tied at 0-0 heading into the second stanza.
The Bearcats (2-1-0) broke the draw in the 55th minute on a goal by Brittany Walsh. Getting a quick tap pass from teammate Taylor Kucharski, Walsh drilled a shot from 12 yards out to the right of a sprawling Neal to give Binghamton the 1-0 edge at 54:53.
Saint Joseph's (0-2-0) had a chance to tie the score in the 79th minute, but the shot by sophomore Mo Hawkins ricocheted off the cross bar.
Kaitlyn Martin would add an insurance goal at 86:42 as she took a pass from teammate Candice Rowland and chipped a shot over Neal as she came out to challenge.
For the game, Binghamton finished with an 11-8 lead in shots, with SJU holding a 4-3 edge in corners.
The Hawks return to action next Friday, September 2, when they host Delaware at 7 p.m.

- Saint Joseph's game against Hartford, scheduled for Sunday, has been cancelled due to expected impact of Hurricane Irene. The game will not be made up.
