KINGSTON, R.I. - The women's track and field team competed at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships this past Saturday and Sunday, hosted by the University of Rhode Island at the Mackal Fieldhouse. The Hawks finished 13th on the weekend.
Senior captain Hannah Boyce highlighted the weekend with her second-place finish in the high jump. With a mark of 1.70m, Boyce set a new personal record in the event en route to her first ECAC-qualfying bid of the season.
Freshman sensation Dannah Hayward checked in with a fifth-place finish in the 500m of her first A-10 Championships with a personal-record and ECAC-qualifying 1:16.67.
All three relay teams placed in the top ten for Saint Joseph's. Hayward led the 4x400m group of junior Jaclyn Kogut, sophomore Marina Rufo, and junior Katie Pratt to an eighth-place finish (3:55.88) in the event while the 4x800m relay squad of senior captain Sara Walker, freshmen Lauren Hehir and Tess Doggett and junior Elizabeth Barrett placed eighth in an ECAC-qualifying 9:22.52. The DMR team of junior Emma Slattery, Kogut, Walker, and Barrett also qualified for ECACs with a ninth-place time of 12:06.68.
Senior captain Genevieve Ruppel led all jumpers with a long-jump mark of 5.43m, good for a ninth-place finish, while sophomore Kayla Charles made Saint Joseph's history by becoming the first Hawk to compete in the Atlantic 10 Championship indoor pentathlon. Charles did exceptionally well in the 60m hurdles (2nd place) and long jump (4th place) en route to a total 3,274 points.
The Hawks will now prepare for the IC4A Championships which will be held from March 2-3 in Boston, Mass.
