Baseball Drops Series Opener at #10/5 Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Saint Joseph's baseball team lost its series opener at #10/5 Mississippi State, falling to the Bulldogs by a 10-0 score at Dudy Noble Field/Polk-DeMent Stadium on Friday night.

Mississippi State (12-0) opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, plating a pair of runs on a single by Tyler Fullerton and an RBI groundout by Daryl Norris.

The Bulldogs extended the lead in the third, tacking on a run on a single by C.T. Bradford.

MSU tacked on three more in the fifth, as a sacrifice fly by Mitch Slauter and a two-run double by Alex Detz added three unearned runs to make it a 6-0 game.

In the sixth, Adam Frazier hit a one-out bases-loaded triple before coming around on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 10-0 and close the scoring.

Freshman Jack Stover worked four and a third innings for Saint Joseph's (2-5), allowing six runs, three earned, on seven hits while fanning three in his first career start; he took the loss to fall to 0-1. Sophomore James Harrity made his first career appearance, allowing just one hit in two scoreless innings of relief.

Jacob Lindgren allowed one hit and struck out 13 in seven innings to improve to 2-0 on the year.

The Hawks will look to bounce back as the series continues on Saturday. First pitch from Starkville is set for 1:00 p.m. Eastern.
