PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team (8-6, 2-3 A-10) will compete in its final regular-season weekend of Atlantic 10 games when the Hawks travel to Richmond (5-10, 2-3 A-10) and host George Washington (8-6, 3-2 A-10) this weekend.

Atlantic 10: #5 vs. #6
Robins Stadium - Richmond, Va. - 4:00 p.m.

Saint Joseph's will look for its second win in program history against Richmond as the Hawks stand 1-11 all-time against the Spiders. Last season, the Hawks fell, 14-7, on April 1 on Finnesey Field. Then-freshman Julia Falcone collected her first collegiate goal en route to her first collegiate hat trick in the loss.

The single win came as one of the most significant victories in recent program history - an 11-10 win in which SJU's final goal came without any time remaining on the clock - as the #3 Hawks defeated the #2 Spiders in the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals. In that game, then-freshman Meghan McDevitt registered two goals late in the second half as a part of the 6-0 run that won the game.

Richmond (5-10, 2-3 A-10) enters Friday's game coming off of a 22-8 victory over St. Bonaventure this past Sunday. Caitlin Fifield (4g, 5a) and Bailey Zerr (4g) led the eleven different Spiders in scoring. Zerr also secured six draw controls while Michaela Aymong and Emily Boyce split even time in goal to combine for four saves.

On the season, Richmond has four players with more than 20 goals - Sam Stevenson (46g, 14a), Fifield (41g, 20a), Kara Moschetti (31g, 13a), and Zerr (21g, 1a). Taylor Blazer leads the Spiders in ground balls (34), draw controls (41), and caused turnovers (22). Boyce (3-8) has seen 12 starts in goal with a .408 saves percentage and 12.76 goals-against average.

In Atlantic 10 action, Richmond has defeated La Salle (19-13 final) and St. Bonaventure (22-8 final) while falling to George Washington (11-10 final), Massachusetts (12-11 final), and Duquesne (11-8 final).

Saint Joseph's vs. George Washington - April 21
Atlantic 10: #5 vs. #3
Finnesey Field - Philadelphia, Pa. - 1:00 p.m.

* Note: The women's lacrosse program will recognize graduate student Meghan McDevitt and seniors Alisha Aquilino, Alexa Matthews, and Maggie Mauer in a Senior Day celebration prior to the start of this game.

Saint Joseph's stands at 3-8 all-time against George Washington, with its last win coming in the form of an 11-8 victory in 2009. Last season, the Hawks fell in overtime, 10-9, on the George Washington Lacrosse Field on March 30. Then-sophomore Val Paolucci was good for three goals in the game while then-junior Alisha Aquilino made 12 saves between the pipes in 66:00.

George Washington (8-6, 3-2 A-10) will play Temple this Friday, April 19, before heading across the city to Finnesey Field on Sunday. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Geasey Field.

The Colonials are coming off of a 6-5 loss to Duquesne this past Sunday. Lindsey DiAntonio led GW in scoring with two goals and one assists. Nicole Lacey secured four draw controls while Jess Hicks made seven saves in 60:00.

On the season, Lacey (31g, 4a) and Rachel Mia (23g, 2a) lead GW in scoring while Jamie Bumgardner has dished out a team-high 33 assists. Jen Seitz (30gb, 37dc, and 14ct) leads the Colonials on the defensive end while Hicks (8-6) has made all 14 starts in goal en route to a .436 saves percentage and 9.05 goals-against average.

In Atlantic 10 action, George Washington has defeated Richmond (11-10 final), La Salle (12-3 final), and St. Bonaventure (19-7 final) and has dropped games to Massachusetts (10-9 final) and Duquesne (6-5 final).

Last Time Out: Saint Joseph's defeated La Salle, 13-10, last Friday but fell to #13 Massachusetts, 14-7, this past Sunday.

Against La Salle, junior attack Abby Ananian, sophomore midfielder Julia Falcone, and freshman attack Emily Bowers combined for nine goals with three apiece. Graduate student Meghan McDevitt had two tallies and an assist while junior midfielder Val Paolucci dished out two assists and caused three turnovers. Falcone and Bowers also combined for seven ground balls on the defensive end while junior defender Allison controlled four draws. Freshman goalkeeper Genevieve Giblin made 11 saves, with seven coming in the second half, in a full 60:00. Trailing 7-6 after the first 30:00, the Hawks ignited for a 7-2 run in the second half to earn its second Atlantic 10 win of the season. The win marks the first time since 2009 that the Hawks have won two Atlantic 10 games in one season. Coach's Corner: Head coach Denise Roessler speaks about...
...SJU's 13-10 victory over La Salle: "I don't think there are words to describe how excited we are as a team. They worked really hard this week on moving the ball and their spacing and just working together as a team to win games. Without a doubt, it's one of the best games I've seen them play to date."

...the play of freshman goalkeeper Genevieve Giblin: "[She was] outstanding between the pipes. In the second half, I couldn't have asked of anything more from her than what she did. She's unbelievable. She's so composed and every game, she comes up huge."

...the difference between the first and second halves: "We just kept emphasizing to take care of the ball and to keep it moving. When the ball moves, things open up. They believed in it and they executed it."

...the play of this week's A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week, Emily Bowers: "As a freshman, Emily is really composed. She reads defenses very well and takes advantage of it when she can. She's not afraid. I'm proud of her."

D-D-Defense: UMass' Katie Ferris currently ranks fifth in the league (2.85) and 16th in the entire nation (3.14) in goals per game. However, the SJU defensive efforts of senior Alexa Matthews, juniors Brittany Hanrahan, Allison Heath, and Kaitlyn McSwiggan, and freshman goalkeeper Genevieve Giblin held Ferris to just one goal in a full 60:00 for just the third time this season for the Minutewoman. Giblin stopped four of Ferris' five shots, two in the first and two in the second, while the defensive line only presented the nation's 16th-ranked scorer with five shots in a full 60:00.

In their 20s: Four Hawks have now reached the 20-goal milestone this season. Graduate student attack Meghan McDevitt leads all scorers with 28 tallies while sophomore midfielder Julia Falcone (27g), junior midfielder Val Paolucci (22g) and junior attack Abby Ananian (20g) have all contributed greatly on the offensive side of the field. Combined, the four standouts represent 72 percent (97-of-135) of SJU's goals. Falcone and Ananian also shine on the defensive end as the sophomore ranks third in the A-10 in ground balls per game (2.38) and the junior averages 2.92 draw controls per game, good for third in the league.

McDevitt on a Mission: At the start of the season, Coach Roessler stated that she had great expectations of leadership from her star attack, graduate student Meghan McDevitt. Leading the team with 49 points off of team-leading 28 goals and 21 assists, McDevitt has lived up to those expectations. Over the first six games of the season, McDevitt led the squad with 2.83 goals per game to help the Hawks to their best start (5-1) in program history and currently ranks fourth in the A-10 with 1.46 assists per game, seventh with 3.54 points per game and ties for 10th with 2.08 goals per game. The standout attack has six hat-tricks on the season in addition, including three four-goal games.

In Saint Joseph's 13-10 win over La Salle on April 12, McDevitt netted her second goal of the game at the 9:56 mark of the first half to put the Hawks ahead, 4-3. With that goal, McDevitt surpassed former Hawk Margot Grant (1994-97) to take sole possession of seventh place on SJU's all-time career goals list with 91. McDevitt now stands with 92 career goals and also ranks in career games played (sixth, 65), assists (fourth, 53), points (fourth, 148), and shots (ninth, 205). The attack also ties for fourth in all-time single-season assists (21) and 10th in all-time single-season points (49).
