PHILADELPHIA - Freshman forward Dakota Mills scored twice and senior goalkeeper Allison Ebling made four saves to lead the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team past Delaware, 2-0, Friday evening at Sweeney Field.
The Hawks (5-2-0) quickly jumped ahead of the Blue Hens as Mills tallied her fourth goal of the season just 77 seconds into the match. Off a corner kick by classmate Paige Bergman, Mills headed the ball to the upper right corner of the net to give Saint Joseph's a 1-0 lead.
Mills netted her second goal of the night in a similar fashion in the 18th minute to put the Hawks ahead 2-0. Off a crossing pass from the left wing by Shannon Westhead, Mills headed the ball from the top of the box to the right side of the net and past the reach of Delaware goalkeeper Kailyn Rekos to give SJU a two-goal edge at 17:14.
Ahead 2-0, Ebling and the SJU defense made the advantage stick as the senior made four saves in posting her fourth win and first shuout of the season.
For the game, Saint Joseph's outshot Delaware (5-4-0) 9-8, with the Blue Hens finishing with a 6-3 edge in corner.
Saint Joseph's returns to action on Sunday at Temple at 1 p.m.
