JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Destroying his own 400m school record for the second time in less than 24 hours, senior sprinter Alec Peabody capped a phenomenal individual career in the quarterfinals of the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Rounds on Friday evening. Hosted by the University of North Florida, the meet is being held at Hodges Stadium Track and Field Facility.
Peabody finished seventh in the second heat en route to a 15th-place finish in a field of the top 24 athletes east of the Mississippi River. The senior clocked in with a new school-record time of 46.29, missing qualification for the NCAA Championships by just .18 seconds.
The senior had flown through the 400m first round in a then-program-record time of 46.35 on Thursday evening to qualify for the quarterfinals.
Peabody had ranked 29th entering the trials and has now broken the school record four times (46.65, 46.51, 46.35, 46.29) in his last five outings.
Scheduled to anchor the 4x400m relay, Peabody will return to action with the group of sophomore David Henderson, senior Chris Banks, junior Torey Doaty, and alternates Eddison Gulama and Kenny Evely on Saturday evening at 9:45 p.m. The top 12 teams will punch their tickets to Oregon.
