JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For one final race, Saint Joseph's 4x400m relay of sophomore David Henderson, senior Chris Banks, junior Torey Doaty, and senior Alec Peabody stepped into Lane 3 of the University on North Florida's track at 9:45 p.m. on Saturday evening and capped a highlight-reel year with a program-record performance (3:08.28) at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Rounds. Hosted by the UNF, the meet is being hosted at Hodges Stadium Track and Field Facility.
The group tore down its previous program-record time (3:08.55), set at the Penn Relays in late April, en route to a 16th-place finish in a field of the top 24 groups east of the Mississippi River. Racing in the third lane, the Hawks placed sixth in the second heat. Henderson and Banks combined for a time of 1:34.93 while Doaty raced a 46.69 on the third leg and Peabody turned in an anchor split of 46.67.
Pittsburgh was the 12th and final team to punch its ticket to Oregon with a time of 3:06.24.
The meet caps the 2016 season for the Crimson and Gray, as well as the decorated careers of Banks and Peabody.
