Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – The University of the Sciences men's basketball team trailed for just 1:24 in a 73-61 upset of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North leader Post on Saturday afternoon at Bobby Morgan Arena.

The Devils erased one of just two deficits in the final minute of the first half and would go on to lead throughout the entirety of the second, as the Eagles' largest advantage of the afternoon was just two.

The first half was played within six points, with Post breaking one of three ties for its final advantage, 25-23, 1:33 ahead of the break, before University of the Sciences closed the half with the final five points.

Thea Eagles would score the first basket of second to get as close as one but could never regain the lead as seven straight USciences points minutes later put the Devils on top 44-35, when Jordan White nailed a jumper with 14:52 remaining.

Post (12-5, 5-2 CACC) pulled within three, 47-44, with 11:10 to go, but a Franklin Okpala jumper and a Sean Simon 3-pointer, the latter coming with 10:20 showing, re-established a lead that would remain six-plus for the remainder of the afternoon.

When the Eagles got as close as six, 56-50, for a final time with 7:44 to play, University of the Sciences answered with a 7-1 surge capped by a Paddy Casey 3-pointer for a 63-51 advantage with just 5:25 left.

Shooting was the major difference with USciences making 50.0 percent from both the field (29-of-58) and beyond the arc (7-of-14), compared to just 31.3 percent (21-of-67) and 28.1 percent (9-of-32) for Post.

Simon led the way with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting off the bench, while also tying a career-high with six rebounds.

Connor Murphy approached a triple-double with 16 points and game-highs off 11 rebounds and a season-best seven assists.

As a team, University of the Sciences tied its season-high with 22 assists.

White was also in double-figures with 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Casey and Okpala contributed eight points each, while Jordan Davidson set a new season-best with six.

University of the Sciences returns to the road for the first of three straight away games this Tuesday with an 8 p.m. tip at Wilmington.
