The Saint Joseph's softball team fell to Maryland 3-0 in the fourth-place game in the final day of the Florida State Seminole Invitational.
The Hawks, who finished third in Pool A, went down in order to start the game as Maryland's Abbey Welch shut Saint Joseph's down.
The Terps struck back in the bottom of the first, plating two off of Hawk errors. Nneka Cardoza came around to score on a by seniors Cara Deldeo and Crystal Tweedy scored on a foul-out to Alicia Cunic.
Despite a leadoff double by Cunic to start the second, the Hawks failed to advance her past third.
Following two scoreless innings, Maryland plated its third run of the game on a home run by Natalie Gros.
Both teams failed to score over the final three innings as Welch held Saint Joseph's hitless over the final five innings.
Cunic was the lone Hawk batter to register a hit.
Freshman pitcher Lauren Cognigni allowed two runs over three inning, while Lauren Hughes was charged with the third run. The duo combined for five strikeouts.
Welch held the Hawks in check; allowing one hit over seven innings, while striking out eight.
With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 2-5, while Maryland improves to 7-8.
No. 20 Florida State claimed the invitational title, going 5-0 on the weekend.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Friday in the opening round of the Delaware St. Tournament in Dover, DE.
