Softball Sweeps Doubleheader From Saint Peter's

EAST NORRITON, PA - The Saint Joseph's softball team swept a doubleheader from Saint Peter's Thursday afternoon, downing the Peahens 3-2 in eight innings and 4-1 in the nightcap at East Norriton Field.

In the opener, seven innings weren't enough as Saint Joseph's and Saint Peter's were tied at two apiece.

After holding the Peahens scoreless in the top of the eighth, the Hawks struck in the bottom half of the inning. With sophomore Katie McCann at second, senior center fielder Megan Richardson dropped a sacrifice bunt. McCann would come around to score on a fielding error by Saint Peter's, as Saint Joseph's earned the 3-2 victory.

Richardson finished three-for-three with a steal, while senior Cara Deldeo added two hits. Freshman hurler Lauren Cognigni improved to 5-4, allowing two runs, on three hits, while striking out three.

In the nightcap, the Hawks road the arm of sophomore pitcher Lauren Hughes. Hughes allowed one run on five hits, while fanning eight.

At the plate, junior second baseman Jill Clementi added a two-run homer, and senior Robin Berry connect for a solo shot to help the Hawks to a 4-1 win.

With the sweep, the Hawks improve to 7-11 overall, while Saint Peter's fall to 6-12.

Saint Joseph's returns to action Saturday when it hosts La Salle at noon.
