Sabre Paces Men's Track at Penn State Nationals

State College, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's men's track team competed at the Penn State Nationals on Saturday and at Delaware Thomson Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Jared Sabre led the Hawks at the Nationals with an IC4A-qualifying time in the 500m and also helped the 4x400 meter relay squad earn an qualifying time.

Sabre ran the 500 meter in a season-best 1:03.68 which currently ranks second in the Atlantic 10. Sabre ran the last leg in the 4x400 meter relay, and along with David Smith, Derrick Henry, and Garrett Barbalinardo finished in ninth place with a season-best time of 3:17.34.

The distance medley relay (DMR) squad of Luke Fischer, Smith, Jesse Brooks, and Aaron Leskow also earned an IC4A-qualifying time (10:08.92) for a second-place finish.

Fischer ran the first leg in the DMR and also set a new personal record in the mile with a time of 4:16.48 to take sixth place.

Jon Mazzio also recorded a personal-best time (14:57.84) in the 5,000 meter run, just missing the qualifying mark (14:47.40) by less than one second.

At Delaware the Hawks finished third with 116.50 points out of the five competing teams. St. Francis took first place (172) while Delaware finished in second (147.50).

Ryan Fenimore and Tom DiNatale highlighted the squads performance with wins in the 800 meter and 200 meter, respectively. Fenimore ran the 800m in a season-best 2:00.48 while DiNatale ran the 200 meter in 23.00 seconds.

Freshman Tyler Dougherty also put in a season-best performance, running the 400 meter dash in 51.59 seconds to take second place, while David Manion also placed second with a season-best time of 2:33.68 in the 1,000 meter.

The Hawks travel to New Haven, Connecticut next to compete in the Yale Giegengack Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
