The Saint Joseph's men's track team competed in the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games Invitational at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York on Friday. Senior Luke Fischer led the Hawks with an IC4A-qualifying time to place second in the mile.
Fischer ran the mile in 4:12.41, while Jon Mazzio took sixth place with a personal-best 4:15.47, to miss the qualifying mark by under a second. Vince Collins (4:19.46) and Dan Roark (4:23.75) also recorded personal bests in the event.
Finishing the 400 meter dash in fifth, David Smith ran a season-best 49.54 seconds, also just missing the qualifying mark (49.20).
In the 500 meter, George Arcarola took seventh in 1:05.92, hundredths of a second behind the qualifying mark. Jesse Brooks recorded a season-best 1:06.37 to place 11th.
A trio of freshman ran season bests at the meet - Aaron Leskow, Tommy O'Kane, and Patrick Donnelly. Leskow recorded the team's second-best time (8:35.62) of the season in the 3,000 meter. O'Kane improved his time in the 800 meter from 2:07.10 (Princeton) to the team's third-best time of the season (1:59.24), placing 18th. Donnelly recorded a time of 2:34.76 to take 11th in the 1,000 meter.
The Hawks compete in the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships in Kingston, Rhode Island from Thursday through Saturday, February 17-19.
