New Haven, Conn. - Senior Luke Fischer earned an IC4A-qualifying time to place fourth in the 1,000 meter as the Saint Joseph's men's track team competed in Yale's Giegengack Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Fischer ran the 1,000 meter in a time of 2:26.97, which ranks first in the Atlantic 10 conference this season. He also ran the first leg in the distance medley relay, which combined with Jared Sabre, Jesse Brooks and Aaron Leskow to record a season-best and qualifying time of 10:01.00.

The 4x400 meter relay team took second place with a qualifying time of 3:17.68, which is the squad's second best time of the season.

Sabre earned a fourth-place finish in the 400 meter dash with a personal record 49.47 seconds beating his previous record (49.67) which he also set at Giegengack in 2009. Freshman Derrick Henry recorded a season-best 50.29 seconds to place 10th in the event.

Also in sprints, David Smith improved his qualifying time in the 500 meter dash with a season-best 1:04.60.

In distance events, freshman Mike Rankin also had a fourth-place finish in the 5,000 meter while Jon Mazzio placed seventh in the 3,000 meter, each with a season bests. Rankin just missed the qualifying mark by less than a second with his time of 14:48.30 while Mazzio finished the 3,000 in 8:30.64, just over three seconds behind the qualifying mark.

Freshman Dan Roark also had a season best in the 3,000 meter with a time of 8:39.25 to finish in 15th place while in the mile Leskow took 17th with a season-best 4:19.24.

The Hawks compete at Lafayette/Rider on Friday in their last meet before the Atlantic 10 Championships on February 17-19.
