The Saint Joseph's men's track team won three events in it's outdoor track season opener at Penn's Big 5 Meet at Franklin Field on Saturday. The 4x400 meter relay team placed first, while Jared Sabre and David Manion earned wins in the 400 meter and 800 meter, respectively.
The 4x400 meter squad composed of David Smith, George Arcarola, Garrett Barbalinardo and Sabre at the anchor, finished the relay in 3:19.13. The 4x100 relay team ran to a third-place finish with a time of 43.44 seconds.
Sabre completed the 400 meter in 49.01 seconds while Smith followed in 49.64 to take second place.
Manion ran the 800 meter in 1:56.18 and Luke Fischer followed in 1:56.20 to place second, while Dylan Wenik and Aaron Leskow took third (1:56.49) and fourth (1:56.75) place, respectively.
Freshman Tyler Dougherty placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.64 seconds and earned fifth place in the 100 meter dash in 11.54.
Kevin McDonnell also had a second-place finish, completing the 5,000 meter in 14:48.44 in a pack of 23 runners.
Derrick Henry competed in the 400 meter hurdles, placing seventh with a time of 57.06, while Griff Roberts took 11th in 59.25.
In jumps Michael Yap finished third in the long jump with a mark of 18'10 1/2" while Vinh Nghi To took fifth (17'10 3/4").
The Hawks return to action on Friday when they compete in the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Virginia. Competition will begin at 9:00 a.m.
