Men's Track Wins Five Events at Delaware Open

Newark, Del. - The Saint Joseph's men's track team won five events at the Delaware Open on Saturday. The Hawks finished first in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays, while Luke Fischer, David Manion, and Murphy O'Donnell had wins in the 800m, 1,500m and 3,000m steeplechase, respectively.

The 4x100m squad of Michael Yap, Tyler Dougherty, Tom DiNatale, and David Smith combined for a season-best time of 43.09 seconds. Derrick Henry, Dougherty, George Arcarola, and Smith ran the 4x400m in 3:19.00.

Fischer ran the 800 meter in 1:52.91 while Jared Sabre followed in 1:53.00 to take second place.

In the 1,500m Manion crossed the finish in 4:07.41 while Patrick Donnelly finished just behind Manion in 4:07.55 to place second.

O'Donnell ran the 3,000m steeplechase in 9:44.31.

Also in distance events, Kevin Donnelly had a third-place finish in the 5,000 meter with a season-best time of 15:05.52.

In sprints, Smith earned a second place in the 400 meter with a time of 49.50, while Henry followed in third place with a time of 49.94. Dougherty placed sixth in the 200 meter in 22.68.

Yap also had a season-best mark in the long jump, with a leap of 19'9 1/2".

The Hawks return to action when they compete in the Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg on Friday and Saturday.
