PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior Torey Doaty anchored the first-place 4x400m relay and placed second in the 400m hurdles to lead the Saint Joseph's men's track and field squad at the unscored Larry Ellis Invitational, held at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium this past Friday and Saturday. The Hawks turned in six IC4A-qualifying performances on the weekend.
SJU's 4x400m relay of junior David Henderson, senior Eddison Gulama, junior Barren McCoy, and Doaty went head-to-head with Princeton and Army in the first heat and came out victorious in an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:15.40, crossing .36 seconds faster than the Tigers and .38 seconds faster than the Black Knights. The time stands as SJU's fastest 4x400m relay time of the spring.
Doaty took home the runner-up finish in the 400m hurdles field of 29 in a season-best, IC4A-qualifying time of 52.82, placing second only to Princeton's Spencer Long (52.61).
In his first collegiate track and field 10,000m, junior David Dorsey crossed in an IC4A-qualifying time of 31:14.08, good for sixth in the field of 15.
John Podles improved upon his 3000m steeplechase PR by over seven seconds to meet IC4A qualification in the event in 9:18.70. The performance earned the sophomore 13th in the field of 30.
A pair of middle distance standouts also met IC4A qualification as sophomore Dylan Eddinger crossed the 800m in a season-best 1:53.61 and junior Dave Garton raced to a 1500m time of 3:55.86, now his second consecutive sub-4:00 1500m finish.
Also of note, Saint Joseph's 4x100m relay of freshman David Bryant, senior Kevin Barry, freshman Justin Moscoe, and junior Kenny Evely placed seventh in 42.85 while sophomore Justin Branco hit a new PR in the 3000m steeplechase (9:33.11).
The Hawks are back in action at the Penn Relays next Thursday, April 27 through Saturday, April 29 and at the Lehigh Games on Saturday, April 29. The squad will then head to the Atlantic 10 Championships at UMass (May 5-7) before heading to the IC4A Championships at Princeton (May 12-14).

CHESTER, Pa. – Freshman Zach Michon won the 1500m in an IC4A-qualifying performance and sophomores Shawn Hutchison (10k) and Tommy Higley (3000S) claimed additional individual titles to lead the Saint Joseph's men's track and field squad at the Widener Invitational this past Friday and Saturday.
Michon won the 1500m in a season-best time of 3:56.21, claiming the title in a field of 104 runners.
In his first collegiate track and field 10,000m, Hutchison claimed the 10k title in 32:28.54, edging out teammate Mike Cassidy (32:31.90), who finished second.
Higley won the 3000m steeplechase in collegiate-best 9:38.16 in the field of 24.
Sophomore Alec Arena finished second in the men's high jump with a PR of 1.90m.
Freshman John Walker also came in strong for the Hawks in the 1500m, taking third in 3:59.58 both in the first heat.
Freshman Joshua Clark and junior Collin Crilly also finished in the top 10 of the men's 5000 meters, Clark taking fourth and Crilly grabbing eighth.
