Doaty Earns 400m Hurdles Silver Medal at IC4A Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior standout Torey Doaty earned the silver medal in the 400m hurdles to lead the Saint Joseph's men's track and field squad to a tie for 19th place, with 14 points, in a field of 49 teams at the IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend. Held at Princeton University's Weaver Stadium, SJU's steeplechasers raced on Friday and all other Hawks raced on Sunday, as inclement weather postponed Saturday's schedule.

Doaty ran his fastest 400m hurdles time of the season en route to a second-place finish in a field of 19 as the senior won his heat over Hampton's Stanley Davis and William and Mary's Dylan Anderson. His time was second only to Kaelen Williams of Hampton (51.84) and earned eight points - more than half of SJU's total on the weekend.

Doaty joins elite company as he becomes the third IC4A silver medalist in the 400m hurdles in program history, and the first in over a decade (Jerry Puryear, 2003 and Lou Kelly, 1981).

On Friday evening, senior Dan Savage ran the best 3000m steeplechase time of his collegiate career, crossing in 9:04.05 for seventh in a field of 20 for two points. Savage becomes just the second Hawk in program history to score in the 3000m steeplechase at the ECAC outdoor meet (Ben Koch, 2002).

SJU earned its additional four points from its relays, as the 4x800m relay of junior Dan Ferraiolo, senior Jack Magee, sophomore Rory Houston, and junior Barren McCoy placed sixth in 7:39.03 for three points and the 4x400m relay of freshman Justin Moscoe, freshman Trae' Robinson, senior Eddison Gulama, and junior Kenny Evely crossed in 3:15.21 for eighth and one point.

For their top-eight finishes, Doaty, Savage, and all eight members of the aforementioned relays earn All-East honors.

Freshman Zach Michon placed 12th in a field of 39 in the 1500m, crossing in 3:53.72. The time was the fourth-fastest by a rookie in the event. Junior Collin Crilly placed 26th (3:56.28).

Sophomore John Podles went for 9:26.12 in the 3000m steeplechase for 17th while classmate Dylan Eddinger (1:52.96) and junior Steve Thompson (1:53.46) placed 21st and 28th, respectively, in the 800m.

Select Hawks return to action at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet at Swarthmore College's Walter T. Skallerup, Jr. Track at Clothier Field in Swarthmore, Pa. tomorrow, May 15.
