The University of the Sciences women's tennis team snapped their four match losing streak with a 6-3 win over Millersville University at the McComsey Tennis Courts in Millersville, Pennsylvania on Thursday.
The Devils are now 2-6 overall while Millersville falls to 0-2.
Senior Victoria Quang (Bel Air HS/Forest Hill, Md.) and freshman Elkanah Linder (Vermont Academy/Townshend, Vt.) were double winners on the afternoon. The two teamed up at #1 doubles to defeat Sara Sambrick and Tori Davis 8-3, tying the match at 1-1. Quang went on to defeat Sambrick, 6-4, 6-3 at #1 singles, breaking a 2-2 tie in the match and giving the Devils a 3-2 lead. Linder's match at #3 singles was the last to be completed with the freshman defeating Kimberly Theophile 6-3, 6-3 at #3 singles.
Abbygail Gamarnik (Central Bucks South HS/Jamison, Pa.) added to the Devils 3-2 lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Davis at #2 singles and Andria Dang (Central HS/Philadelphia, Pa.) secured the win with the Devils fifth point via a 7-6 (7-0), 6-1 win over Samantha Brzenk at #5 singles.
Millersville had the early 1-0 lead via a win at #2 doubles over Gamarnik and Dang before Quang and Linder evened the match up for the Devils with their win at #1 doubles. Alexus Rivas (North Hagerstown HS/Hagerstown, Md.) and Jillyan Serrano (Northern Bulrington HS/Columbus, N.J.) added an 8-6 win over Brzenk and Heather Grove at #3 doubles.
The Maurauders remaining two points came in singles competition as Grove defeated Sara Skoritowski (West Scranton HS/Scranton, Pa.) 6-0, 6-2 at #6 singles and Thompson held off Serrano 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-8) at #4 singles.
The Devils return home to face Chestnut Hill College on Saturday, October 10, 2015. First serve starts at noon.
