Men's Track Wins Five Events, Meets Six IC4A Marks at Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior captain Torey Doaty turned in a pair of IC4A-qualifying victories to lead the Saint Joseph's men's track and field squad at the 13th annual Giegengack Invitational, held at Yale University's Coxe Cage this past Friday through Saturday. The Hawks took home four individual victories and a relay win alongside six IC4A-qualifying performances at the unscored meet.

Saint Joseph's 4x400m relay of senior Brandon Ossont, junior Kenny Evely, junior Barren McCoy, and Doaty cruised to an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:19.10 to down runner-up UMass and third-place finisher La Salle by over four and six seconds, respectively.

Individually, Doaty won the 500m in a field of 13 in a season-best time of 1:04.53, meeting IC4A qualification in the event. This win marks Doaty's seventh career victory in the 500m.

Saint Joseph's added individual wins in the 400m, 800m, and 5000m. Evely won the 400m in a season-best time of 49.54, edging out La Salle's Isaiah Akil by .35 seconds for his first collegiate victory in an open race. Matching his season-best time in the event, senior Jack Magee took home his first collegiate 800m win, crossing in 1:54.99. Junior Anthony Morelli won the 5000m in a season-best 15:25.72, more than 10 seconds faster than the runner-up finisher, to take home his first collegiate victory on the track.

Senior Eddison Gulama placed second in the 500m behind Doaty in a season-best 1:04.62 to also qualify for the IC4A Championship. Of note, the Hawks dominated the event, finishing 1-6 in the field of 13.

The Distance Medley Relay of Magee, Gulama, freshman Zach Michon, and senior Dan Savage crossed the finish line in an IC4A-qualifying 10:10.74 for second place overall.

A pair of junior Hawks impressed with collegiate-best times in the mile, as Dave Garton (4:12.03 PR) and Collin Crilly (4:12.40 PR) went fourth and fifth in the field of 27 to both meet IC4A qualification in the event.

Outside of wins and IC4A-qualifying performances, additional Hawks turned in strong showings.

In addition to racing the third leg of the championship 4x400m relay, McCoy also won his 400m heat en route to a third-place finish in 50.16.

Freshman Justin Moscoe placed third in the 200m (22.67 PR) and fourth in the 400m (50.55 PR), turning in the top rookie performance in each event, while in his first collegiate 800m, classmate Josh Clark finished second in his 800m heat behind McGee for third overall (1:56.28).

Sophomore Dylan Eddinger (season-best 2:31.30) and Michon (2:31.33) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 1000m, while sophomore Keelan O'Reilly added a collegiate-best time of 2:32.50 for seventh.
