Four All-East Performances Highlight IC4A Championships

BOSTON – Senior Steve Thompson (800m), senior Kenny Evely (500m), and sophomore Zach Michon (mile) earned individual All-East accolades and the 4x800m relay of senior Dan Ferraiolo, junior Dylan Eddinger, senior Dave Garton, and junior Rory Houston earned All-East recognition to lead the Saint Joseph's men's track and field squad at the 2018 IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center this weekend. The Hawks earned nine points to tie for 20th in a field of 36 scoring teams.

The Hawks' 4x800m relay of Ferraiolo, Eddinger, Garton, and Houston placed fifth in Sunday's finals, crossing in 7:31.63. The performance stands as SJU's fastest 4x800m relay performance of the season and was off from the school record by slightly under just two seconds. The same group had taken ninth in a field of 15 to qualify out of Saturday's preliminaries with a time of 7:36.57.

Thompson placed sixth in the 800m finals on Sunday afternoon with a time of 1:52.64 to earn three points for the Crimson and Gray and his first collegiate IC4A All-East honor in an individual event. The senior had run a collegiate-best time of 1:51.34 to advance out of Saturday's preliminaries with the eighth spot in a field of 31; that time put Thompson second on SJU's Top-Ten Indoor Performers List, behind SJU's recordholder in the event, Bobby Jackson (1:50.39).

Evely earned an eighth-place finish in the 500m finals on Sunday afternoon, crossing in 1:04.07. The senior had owned the fifth-fastest performance out of Saturday's preliminaries with a collegiate-best time of 1:03.94. With his scoring performance, Evely recorded his first collegiate IC4A All-East honors in an individual event.

Michon took home an eighth-place finish in the mile final on Sunday afternoon, crossing in 4:08.32; he edged out William and Mary's Ryan McGorty (4:08.90) for the scoring performance. The sophomore had turned in a collegiate-best time of 4:07.78, which stood as the fastest time outside of the eight automatic qualifiers, on Saturday to earn him a spot in Sunday's finals. With his scoring performance, Michon earned the first IC4A All-East honors of his collegiate career.

Stephen McClellan, a rookie for the Hawks, placed ninth in the 500m finals in a time of 1:04.78; he and Evely both raced in the second section, and Evely edged McClellan by .71 seconds. McClellan had owned the ninth-fastest performance out of Saturday's preliminaries with a season-best time of 1:04.57.

Senior Collin Crilly placed 10th in the mile final, crossing in a collegiate-best time of 4:09.35. The senior had earned an automatic qualification after finishing second in the first heat (4:13.51) on Saturday.

Additional Hawks raced in Saturday's preliminaries, as senior David Henderson placed 18th in the 400m (49.23), sophomore Trae' Robinson placed 16th in the 500m (1:05.48), and, in his IC4A indoor debut, freshman Matthew Scarpill placed 25th in the mile (4:18.04).

Additionally on Saturday, Saint Joseph's Distance Medley Relay of sophomore John Walker, sophomore Aaron Lemma, sophomore Colin Parker, and junior Justin Branco recorded a time of 10:12.39 for 12th while Saint Joseph's 4x400m relay of freshman Sebastian Eaton, sophomore David Bryant, freshman Joshua Richard, and Robinson registered a time of 3:23.12 to finish 14th.

This weekend's meet officially concludes Saint Joseph's 2017-18 indoor track and field season. The Hawks will open the outdoor season at the 23rd Annual Monmouth Season Opener at Monmouth's Kessler Stadium in West Long Branch, N.J. on Saturday, March 24.
