Matthew McGarvey Paces Men's Track at Lafayette

Easton, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's men's track team took fifth place at the Lafayette 7-way meet in Easton, Pa. on Sunday. Matthew McGarvey grabbed first in the 800m as Logan Mohn won the 3000m steeplechase.

McGarvey crossed the stripe in the 800m at 1:52.64 while Steven Butenewicz came in second (1:53.52) and Dylan Wenik notched third (1:54.31). James Gentile took seventh place with a time of 1:57.81. Mohn turned in a meet-best time of 9:33.82 in the 3000m steeplechase as Brady Deckert came in third with a mark of 9:41.98.

The sprints were led by Jon Eisemann and Tom DiNatale. Eisemann finished in sixth place in the 100m (10.96), as DiNatale took seventh in the 200m (22.75). The Hawks captured two top five finishes in the 400m as Tyler Gallen came in fourth (50.07) and Garret Barbalinardocame in fifth (50.25). In the 400m hurdles, James Rodgers placed sixth with a time of 56.60 and Griff Roberts finished behind him in eighth 56.84.

SJU was successful in the distance events as Aaron Leskow led the way in the 1500m with a second place mark of 3:57.47 and Andrew Townsend crossed just behind him in third at 3:57.52. Tommy O'Kane finished in sixth at 3:59.15. In the 3000m, Patrick Donnelly placed third to lead the Hawks at 8:42.41 while Paul Szulewski notched fourth with his 8:43.30 time.

The 4x400m team of Derek Henry, Brendan Robert, Wenik and Gallen turned in a second place time of 3:20.06. Michael Yap closed out the jumps with a mark of 19'8" to take sixth place overall.

The men will return to action this weekend when they travel to Williamsburg, Va. to compete in the Colonial Relays. The first event is scheduled for noon on Friday.
