PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's track and field team will travel to Kingston, R.I. this weekend for the 2015 Atlantic 10 Track and Field Championships. The two-day meet will be held at the University of Rhode Island from Saturday, February 21 through Sunday, February 22 as the Mackal Field House will play host to the top athletes from 14 teams across the league.

Heading into the weekend, eight Hawks currently rank in the league's top nine of 10 different individual events. Saint Joseph's graduate student Rad Gunzenhauser leads the conference in both the 3000m (8:10.64) and 5000m (14:22.85) while graduate student Aaron Leskow owns the top spot in the mile (4:07.07) and second spot in the 3k (8:11.63). Senior Logan Mohn owns the league's best 1000m performance (2:26.87).
A potential scorer in the 60m and 200m along with the high jump, junior Alec Peabody currently ranks in the top six of all three events. Sophomore Torey Doaty (400m, 500m) and senior Steve Butenewicz (800m, 1000m) rank in the league's top-nine in their respective events while seniors Matt McGarvey (800m) and Tyler Gallen (500m) sit third and fifth entering this weekend.
Always a dominant factor on the Atlantic 10 scene, Saint Joseph's conference-leading 4x8 (7:38.83) and DMR (9:57.74) and second-fastest 4x4 (3:15.15) will look to take home a bunch of points for the Crimson and Gray this weekend.
The Atlantic 10 Championships will kick off on Saturday, February 21 at 9:00 a.m./9:20 a.m. with the men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon. Peabody will open competition for the Crimson and Gray with participation in the men's high jump, beginning at 2:00 p.m.

60m & 200m: Alec Peabody (T-6, 4)

Junior sprint standout Alec Peabody will represent the Hawks in the 60m and 200m this weekend and currently ranks fourth in the 200m (21.90) and ties for sixth in the 60m (7.02 PR) in the Atlantic 10 individual rankings. In the season-opening meet at the Jack Pyrah Invitational, Peabody placed second in the 60 in his personal-record 7.02 and has raced the event four times total on the season. After posting a pair of 22.00+ 200m times in his first two races of the season, Peabody's flew through the 200m in a season-best 21.90 that will lead him into Saturday evening's trials. Already accomplished on the Atlantic 10 stage, Peabody placed second (200m) and seventh (60m) in these events at the 2014 A-10 Indoor Championships.
400m: Chris Banks (12), Peter Larmann, David Furman

Coming off of a sixth-place performance (51.29) at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships as a sophomore last year, junior Chris Banks will take his season-best 49.62 into the 400m trials this Saturday afternoon. A three-time point scorer on A-10 relays, Banks will look to earn his first scoring performance in his second consecutive indoor 400m league race. Graduate student Peter Larmann (season-best 51.39) will race his second indoor 400m at the conference level while senior David Furman has earned the opportunity to compete at his first Atlantic 10 Championship meet this weekend.
500m: Torey Doaty (3), Tyler Gallen, Kenny Evely
Trials – Saturday – 4:25 PM • Finals – Sunday – 12:20 PM
The 500m has the potential to provide exciting SJU performances from the standout pair of sophomore Torey Doaty and senior Tyler Gallen. Doaty's personal-record 500m (1:04.15) for second place at the Penn State National Invitaitonal ranks him third entering Saturday's trials. The sophomore took ninth in the indoor 400m at 2014 A-10s and certainly has the performances and potential to advance to Sunday's finals. Also in the top-five of A-10 standings is Gallen, who posted a season-best 1:04.48 at the Penn State Relays. After missing last year's indoor championships due to injury, Gallen will look to repeat on the success of his sophomore year conference 500m performance, where he earned the bronze (1:04.31). Freshman Kenny Evely flew through his only 500m of the season in 1:06.15 at Yale and owns the fifth-fastest freshman performance and 18th overall best performance in the A-10 entering his first conference championship weekend.
800m: Matthew McGarvey (3), Brady Deckert, Eddison Gulama

The returning Atlantic 10 champion in the indoor 800m, senior Matthew McGarvey owns 18 points throughout three indoor 800m league performances for his career. McGarvey's season-best 1:52.36 ranks third in the A-10, and McGarvey will look to cap his phenomenal indoor conference career with a fourth consecutive advancement to the 800m finals. Senior Brady Deckert, who ran the 800m leg of the championship and Atlantic 10- and Mackal Field House-breaking DMR at last year's meet, will look to score in his first open 800m. The senior earned a new personal-record 800m (1:54.26) in his second 800m race of the season at the Penn State National Invitational. Also a threat on the relays, sophomore Eddison Gulama placed 10th in his first conference 800m last year (1:58.26) and owns an indoor PR 1:54.58 entering Saturday's trials.
1000m: Logan Mohn (1), Steve Butenewicz, Jack Magee
Trials – Saturday – 3:30 PM • Finals – Sunday – 12:50 PM
Senior Logan Mohn's personal-record 1000m (2:26.87), set at the Penn State National Invitational, ranks him as the A-10's top contender heading into Saturday afternoon's trials. Mohn is a three-time scorer in individual middle distance events at the indoor A-10 level and will look to continue upon the momentum of his PR performance at Penn State this Saturday afternoon. After racing and scoring in the indoor 800m during his freshman and sophomore seasons, senior Steve Butenewicz transitioned to the 1000m last year and ran his season-best performance (2:31.45) at A-10's for a fifth-place, four-point finish. Butenewicz currently ranks ninth in the A-10 with a season-best 2:28.95. All three of sophomore Jack Magee's 1000m performances best his PR from his rookie season, and he will enter his second indoor conference 1000m with a collegiate-best 2:30.57 to his name; as a freshman last year, Magee placed 10th in the field.
Mile: Aaron Leskow (1), Collin Crilly, Quinn Davis
Finals – Sunday – 11:20 AM
The returning Atlantic 10 champion in the indoor mile, graduate student Aaron Leskow returns for his final A-10 indoor mile race with a season- and personal-best 4:07.07 performance to his name. Leskow leads Fordham's Jonathan Annelli by over a second and is a three-time scorer in the mile at the A-10 level, including a bronze medal performance in 2013. In his first conference mile event, junior Quinn Davis owns a season-best 4:21.51 (4:12.01 PR last season) heading into the finals while rookie Collin Crilly (4:21.18) will race his first Atlantic 10 Championship individual race this weekend.
3000m: Aaron Leskow (2), John Mascioli, Paul Szulewski
Finals – Sunday – 1:20 PM
After placing fourth in last year's indoor 3k, graduate student Aaron Leskow will follow up his mile race with the 3000m this Sunday afternoon. Leskow's PR (8:07.07) is the school record in the event, and his season-best 8:11.63 will lead him into the weekend. Leskow ranks second in the conference only to fellow Hawk graduate student Rad Gunzenhauser, who will pass up the 3k to focus on the 5000m this weekend. Sophomore John Mascioli ran a PR 8:33.62 his last time out at the Penn State National Invitational while senior Paul Szulewski takes a season-best 8:35.83 into Sunday; the senior is a two-time point scorer in the 3k at the A-10 level.
5000m: Rad Gunzenhauser (1), Dan Savage, Jimmy Daniels
Finals – Saturday – 5:25 PM
Last time out at Boston University's prestigious David Hemery Valentine Invitational, graduate student Rad Gunzenhauser flew through the 5000m in a remarkable 14:22.85, the Atlantic 10's best performance this season by over 14 seconds. In his first indoor season on Hawk Hill after transferring from William and Mary, the 2014 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships individual champion is the conference favorite heading into the 5k finals. Sophomores Dan Savage (14:56.29 PR) and Jimmy Daniels (season-best 15:08.94) will also race the 5000m this Saturday; Daniels placed 10th last season.

A selection of 15 Hawks could have the opportunity to score between the 4x4 and 4x8 relays on Sunday afternoon. A quartet of sprinters from the pool of graduate student Peter Larmann, seniors Steve Butenewicz, Brady Deckert, Tyler Gallen, Jamie Gentile, Matthew McGarvey, Logan Mohn, and Brendan Robert, junior Chris Banks, sophomores Torey Doaty, Eddison Gulama, and Jack Magee, and freshmen Kenny Evely, Dan Ferraiolo, and Dave Garton will be called upon to race the 4x4 and 4x8 this Sunday.
Banks, Doaty, Gallen, and junior Alec Peabody – who will be competing in three individual events this weekend – own SJU's fastest and the A-10's second fastest 4x4 (3:15.15) of the season. Graduate student Aaron Leskow – who will be racing the mile and 3k – Gulama, McGarvey, and Butenewicz own the Atlantic 10's fastest 4x8 (7:38.83).
All four members of the 2014 Atlantic 10 championship 4x8 in Mohn, Butenewicz, Gulama, and Deckert return this season while the 2014 Atlantic 10 silver-medal 4x4 returns its second and anchor legs of Banks and McGarvey.
DMR: Collin Crilly, Brendan Robert, Jamie Gentile, Dave Garton
Finals – Saturday – 6:50 PM
Rookies Collin Crilly (1200m) and Dave Garton (1600m) will leadoff and anchor Saint Joseph's 2015 A-10 DMR, while senior sprint veterans Brenan Robert (400m) and Jamie Gentile (800m) will take on the middle legs this Saturday evening. Gentile and Robert both ran on the 2012 silver medal DMR, and Gentile added another silver-medal performance in 2013.
Long Jump: Alec Peabody (5)
Finals – Saturday – 2:00 PM
The returning Atlantic 10 indoor (and outdoor) long jump bronze medalist, junior Alec Peabody will add to his pair of sprint events with participation in the long jump finals on Saturday afternoon. Peabody jumped for 6.95m for third last season and posted his season-best mark (6.81m) last time out at the Yale Giegengack Invitational. Peabody currently ranks fifth in the Atlantic 10 standings.
